Description: Long grain rice. Long-grain rice is mainly Oryza sativa Indica, and all those varieties of rice, like Basmati, where the grains are approximately four times as long as they are wide. Grains are around 7-9 mm (up to ¼ “) long. People are inclined to think that only short-grain, sticky rice is used in China, Japan and much of South East Asia, but in fact long-grain rice is just as popular for use with certain dishes.
