English
English is spoken in many countries, not least Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States. In whatamieating.com we try to differentiate where possible between the English used in different parts of the world. So, if there is a term which you know to be English used in the United States (such as eggplant) then a search using 'American' should be as successful as one using 'English'. Of course, this is not always easy to tease out, and many many food terms, the greatest number on the website, are simply described as 'English' with no particular statements about where the term is used throughout the world.

If you wish to find a foreign translation of an American English food term, for instance "italian eggplant", simply type this in and then click on 'Translate from English'. All Italian terms which include the word for artichoke will be listed. You can reduce this list by clicking to the right of 'All' and selecting 'Food' from the drop down menu. The many translations which still appear reflect the fact that there are many regional dialects in Italy.
