Description: A high quality, plump, flattish fish with a golden sheen, with an ugly but amiable face. It was first associated with Zeus (giving it is Latin name), then with St Peter, as evidenced by the ‘finger marks’ left by him when he picked it up to remove a coin from its mouth to pay some taxes, and giving many the fish many of its common names involing St Peter. John Dory are coastal fish, found on the coasts of South West Africa, South East Asia, New Zealand, Australia, the coasts of Japan, and on the coasts of Europe. They live near the seabed, living in depths from 5 meters (15 ft) to 360 meters (1200 ft). They are normally solitary.
